Most soldiers kept their rifles clean. It's basically a flaw in the system. The HK416 won't freeze on you under these conditions. It's basically the same construction, but H&K came up with a way to dissipate most of the heat caused by the expelled gases. You can also clog it with water, sand, mud, or pretty much anything, and it will continue to fire as if nothing were wrong with it. Of course, as you say, it will jam under the most extreme conditions, but you have to do something radical.

More than half the malfunctions have been caused in the heat of battle - mainly because of heat buildup caused by the expelled gases, which dried up the lubricants in the mechanism, slowing the bolt down. Also, there are weapons like the HK416 or SCAR that can fire under more extreme conditions. Try sticking your M4 in some sand, and see if it'll fire. Either it will just not fire, or in the worst-case scenario, it will blow the barrel, sending deadly shrapnel everywhere.

Proper maintenance daily will fix this, all weapons will do that if you neglect them.

I wouldn't trust my life to an M16. Those things are constantly jamming. You tell me you'd trust your life to one when you get a shell casing stuck in the ejection port, and you have terrorists advancing on your position. We've had soldiers die because their M16/M4 jammed in a life-or-death situation.

It doesen't take anymore parts to swich calibers on an M16(as long as it will fit in the magwell and ejection port) than it does a SCAR, the advantage of the M16 is these conversion parts are already readily and cheaply avaliable even on the civi marketplace. There are a multitude of stocks avalible with adjustable cheek rests.Don't blame the gun because the military is stupid and doesen't issue the parts that would make the M16 an effective rifle.

Modularity is not ordering 1000 diff parts to change a caliber of a weapon. It means changing the caliber in a VERY short amount of time depending on mission circumstances. And ergonomically, a cheek rest for the shooter is better than an m16 without one.And yes you can get diff recievers with a uninterrupted top rail, (NOT GAS REGULATORS WTF) but the army doesnt issue them to soliders
Toolofdeath (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
Can get gas regulators for the M16ergonomics is on a case to case basis you can get un interuptable rails for the M16 I'll give you the charging handle pointHA, no the SCAR is no where near as modularYou can get parts to change the M16 into just about any caliber, including .50 BMG.The only REAL advantage is less cleaning. Other than that it's all show.

hk416 got more stoppages than the SCAR ;)

i mean both the 416 and the 417. same weapon, different calibre.
Synthiotics (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
tests have shown that it's slightly more reliable than the HK417, and absolutely everyone keeps claiming the 417 is the most reliable western weapon evah!!1!!!1! |
